Meet our first Splint Hero: Marjolein!

09 April 2025

Hi! I’m Marjolein, 23 years old, and I’m from the Bollenstreek region in the Netherlands. I’m always on the go and can’t sit still for long. Whether I’m working as a pediatric occupational therapist in Haarlem, running my own photo and video business, creating content for a flower bulb company, or being active on Instagram and YouTube — I’m constantly busy! In my free time, I swim twice a week, do physiotherapy, love handicrafts, enjoy baking, and work in my vegetable garden. I do many of these things in adapted ways, using assistive tools so I can continue doing everything I love.

Crafting has always been a passion of mine. My grandmother taught me to knit when I was little, and I became hooked on creating. Sadly, that all changed during my teenage years when I developed hypermobility in my fingers. The pain and fatigue made it impossible for me to knit, crochet, or even do simple daily tasks. It was incredibly disappointing, as crafting had always brought me so much joy.

Thankfully, my second rehabilitation program made a difference. I shared how much I missed crafting and how I couldn’t do what I wanted with my hands anymore. My hand and occupational therapist suggested trying finger splints — and that marked the beginning of my recovery. I started with standard plastic splints and felt a huge improvement in pain and fatigue after just one week. Because the plastic Splints worked so well, we decided to move forward with custom-made Silversplints from We Design Silversplints.

What a difference they made! Silversplints transformed my daily life in ways I never imagined. What used to be impossible due to finger pain — like knitting and crocheting — I can now do for hours on end without fatigue. It’s not just crafting that’s improved — I’ve seen big progress in everyday tasks like writing, typing, opening jars, and other things that used to be difficult.

What I love most about Silversplints is that they’re not only functional but also beautiful. They’re designed like stylish rings that are easy to wear, and I often get compliments on how pretty they look. Sometimes people even ask, “Where can I buy those? They’re so nice!” They usually don’t realize they’re medical devices, which I always find funny.

Silversplints have made my life so much easier. I’ve become more independent, don’t have to ask for help as often, and my joints stay in place better. This prevents dislocations — a huge relief, especially since I’m always moving throughout the day.

I’m so enthusiastic about Silversplints that I now recommend them to others. As an occupational therapist, I use them as a solution for clients with similar hand issues. They’re truly a game-changer for anyone struggling with hand or finger pain. I’d say: start with plastic Splints to see if they help, like they did for me. Then, consider switching to the custom-made Silversplints.

Personally, I would never hesitate to use a tool if it improves my daily life. It would be a shame not to use something that can relieve pain and increase independence. Silversplints have greatly improved my quality of life, and I absolutely recommend them to anyone with hand problems.

Thanks to Silversplints, I can now do everything I intended to again — from crafting to daily tasks. I’m incredibly grateful to We Design Silversplints for making these Splints that have improved my life so much. If you’re unsure whether assistive tools are for you, I’d say: give it a try. The difference it can make is incredible.
